Restoring Circulation, and Hope, for Patients Across South Carolina
Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Dr. Adam Keefer graduated summa cum laude from Pennsylvania State University before earning his medical degree, general-surgery residency, and vascular-surgery fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical School. Today, as a board-certified vascular surgeon and partner of Coastal Vascular & Vein Center, a rapidly expanding outpatient vascular practice in South Carolina, he brings both scientific precision and deep compassion to every patient encounter.
“We’re outpatient focused,” he says. “About 90 percent of our practice is outpatient. We have several outpatient centers and an ASC where we perform most of our procedures.” Those procedures range from chronic vein-disease treatments to complex limb-salvage interventions for peripheral arterial disease.
A Statewide Mission to Save Limbs and Lives
“Our overall goal is really reducing the amputation rate across the state,” Dr. Keefer explains. “It’s heartbreaking to see a patient told they need an amputation when the underlying issue—lack of blood flow—can sometimes be fixed.” His team’s “limb-salvage program” has already expanded into Myrtle Beach, with a Columbia office opening next and plans to reach new communities in the coming years.
Behind those clinical achievements lies a simple motivation: preserving quality of life. “We had a patient who’d been told by multiple doctors he’d lose his leg,” Dr. Keefer recalls. “He loved to golf. Over two months and several procedures, we restored the blood flow and saved his foot. He’s still walking and golfing today. That’s really what our goal is.”
“Working with Teri and Samantha and everyone there stabilized our billing and gave us peace of mind. I know we’re compliant, and that lets me sleep better at night.”
A Partnership Built on Trust and Shared Purpose
Accountable Physician Advisors has been part of that mission since 2021, when his group sought a more reliable billing and revenue-cycle partner. “We had an internal billing department that just wasn’t meeting expectations,” he says. “Working with Teri and Samantha and everyone there stabilized our billing and gave us peace of mind. I know we’re compliant, and that lets me sleep better at night.”
Looking ahead to the 2026 CPT-code overhaul, Dr. Keefer recognizes the uncertainty but also the opportunity. “There’s going to be a huge learning curve in the first few months,” he says, “but we’ll get through it. I feel much better off in the position we’re in with Accountable than a lot of practices that have their own internal billing department.”
Teamwork in Action
When he’s not in the operating room or mentoring younger surgeons, Dr. Keefer stays busy with his four children—often at baseball tournaments—and occasionally indulges his love of cars.
For the Accountable team, his story is a reminder of why our work matters: every clean claim, every accurate code, every compliant process directly supports physicians like Dr. Keefer and the patients whose lives and limbs they save.
