Employee Spotlight: Michele Azbill, Certified CIRCC Coder

From her home office overlooking Lake Hartwell on the Georgia–South Carolina border, Michele brings more than three decades of experience in radiology and an inspiring spirit of teamwork to her role as a Certified CIRCC Coder (Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder) at Accountable Revenue Cycle Solutions.

Before joining the company two years ago, Michele spent 30 years in radiology where she spent most of her career in interventional radiology and neuro-intervention, including two and a half years on a neuro-interventional stroke team. “It was high-pressure and high-stakes,” she recalls. “You’d be called in through the night and still be back at work the next morning. After decades, I decided it was time to let the younger generation take over and to step into a new challenge.”

That new challenge was coding. Drawing on her clinical knowledge, she earned her certification through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and went on to specialize in vascular coding. “It’s completely different from being in the lab,” she says. “But I love it. I know the procedures, and now I get to make sure everything our physicians do is captured accurately so they can be reimbursed for their work.”

“We have such a strong team. If someone has a difficult case, we’ll all jump on Teams to review it. Everyone wants everyone else to succeed.”

As the company prepares for the upcoming CPT code changes, Michele brings calm confidence and perspective. “There’s definitely a learning curve, but we’ll get through it together,” she says. “We have such a strong team. If someone has a difficult case, we’ll all jump on Teams to review it. Everyone wants everyone else to succeed.”

The Art of Renewal

Those who know Michele, likely notice she radiates positivity. Michele says, she recharges her battery so to speak with regular nature-filled ‘walk abouts’ near the lake. “I also have an amazing network of friends up here who fill the battery quickly, with love and laughter. I think laughter truly feeds the soul, so I surround myself with positive people who enjoy life,” she says.

Michele also enjoys traveling—this year she visited the Amalfi Coast with four friends and is heading to France next—and looks forward to her daughter’s wedding on the lake next spring. “I truly feel lucky,” she says. “I live in paradise, work with amazing people, and get to keep learning every day.”
